HISTORY OF SKYSCRAPERS The Great Pyramid of Egypt is shorter today, due to looting and vandalism.  481 feet is the generally accepted estimated original height.  Also, the first three cathedrals shown below may prove slightly exaggerated, should more direct evidence eventually be found.  Finally, my diagram doesn't include St. Michael's Church in Old Town Chicago, at 290ft in 1869, surpassing Trinity Church before the Chicago Board of Trade, as I wasn't able to verify this info prior to release.
